Peel Politicians, Ministry of Labour, Doug Ford:
Protect Essential Workers Now!

The essential workers of Peel region need real protections during the COVID-19 pandemic. Ten Pearson airport taxi drivers have died, four personal support workers have died, and many more are at risk in the region’s warehouses and factories that employ thousands of workers.

It is unacceptable that anyone should be going in at this time without proper PPE, and yet many healthcare workers say they are not getting the masks and gloves they desperately need. Many workplaces do not have proper social distancing measures put in place. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Labour has not processed a single unsafe work refusal related to COVID-19.

Premier Ford now wants to open up the Ontario economy, even as there’s yet to be a marked decrease in the number of COVID-19 cases. The premier, should he decide to move ahead with his plan, would be endangering thousands unless he works with his municipal and federal counterparts to create a plan to keep workers and community members safe.

Insist that the premier, the ministry of labour and all Peel political representatives work together to implement a protocol to protect the health and well being of the region’s essential workers!

COVID-19 at Amazon: Give workers the health and safety protections they deserve!

On April 22 Amazon workers from the Bolton, ON facility received an email stating that one of their colleagues had tested positive for COVID-19. The company has refused to state which shift or department the patient worked in, and has refused to delay operations for any length of time in order to fully sanitize the premises. Amazon exhibited this same behaviour when workers tested positive for COVID-19 at its Carlsbad Springs, Ontario and Balzac, Alberta facilities, respectively.

This is unacceptable for a company that was given a contract by the federal government to deliver PPE and medical supplies for the whole country

Please, join us in telling Amazon that workers need real support. Send a letter to your elected representatives demanding Amazon provide a safe workplace for its employees.

When there is a positive case of COVID-19 in one of its facilities, it should be shut down for sanitizing and workers should be sent home with full pay!!
